Commissioned Wedding Paintings $695.00 (plus S&H)
IMPORTANT: I will be UNAVAILABLE from June 11, 2008- August 10th (or so). I will not be able to answer emails or book any commissions during this time. Thank you for your understanding.
What better way to celebrate your love than to have your union immortalized in a work of art? Why not give yourselves or your new spouse a gift to commemorate your special day? Or surprise him or her with an amazing anniversary gift. Or perhaps you're looking for an extra special gift for the bride and groom who already have a household of stuff...Unlike so many of today's wedding costs, a gift of art is an investment and will bring you years of enjoyment (instead of a single day).

This package includes:
- Personalized acrylic and mixed media painting of two people on a size 22 x 28 inch gallery-wrapped canvas (3/4 inch thick, thicker canvases are available for an additional cost of $25).
- Edges of the canvas will be painted so that the artwork can be hung without a frame.
- location/ theme/ famous structure(s) of your choice (If you want something really crazy or complex, I may need to re-negotiate the cost.)
- attire of your choice (traditional wedding attire or bathing suits or bear costumes or circus outfits...you choose)
- Up to two pets or animals at no additional charge. (I'm willing to add in a couple of birds as well for free if you'd like.) (One exception: if you want seagulls flying off in the distance, I will have to charge you $500 per seagull :) Because that would be like selling you a little piece of my soul.)
- A coat of protective glossy medium/varnish.
- A hanging hook or hanging wire attached to the back so it arrives ready to hang.
- Additional figures are $125 per person and additional animals are $80 per animal.

Additional Info:
I'm currently accepting "reservations" on a month-by-month basis to do two (three at the very most) paintings per month. So if you know you definitely want the painting by, say, August, then be sure to make your reservation for no later than July. I will guarantee that your painting will be delivered by the end of the month that your reservation is for.
As of 4/19/08, here is my availability:
April- BOOKED May- 2 spaces (possibly 3) June- 2 spaces July-BOOKED August- 1 space September and beyond- 2 spaces per month, sometimes 3.
I ask for a non-refundable deposit of $100 to be paid before I begin working. This covers my material costs in a worst case scenario. Ofcourse, I wouldn't force someone to complete the purchase if they were irreconcilably unhappy with the piece. But I spend a great deal of time on these pieces and I hope these arrangements continue to go well. (Both artist and patron should feel a sense of responsibility towards this arrangement, yes?) Once the painting is completed and you approve it via email and you're happy with it, I will need the final payment to clear before the painting is shipped. At this point I only use Paypal for payment, but you can pay by credit card. This protects both of us for the transaction.
PLEASE, PLEASE don't make a reservation unless you're certain you'd like to commission an artwork. You are making a commitment and my business depends on both your and my commitments!
I do ask that you familiarize yourself with my work so you have an idea of the style of artwork that you're purchasing. I am willing to work with you to give you what you want, but keep in mind it is important to me that I maintain my artistic integrity in the process.
PLEASE PLEASE: I will reiterate because I want to save us all a lot of frustration. Please take some time to look at my other paintings and realize that I don't paint realistically. My style is representational, stylized, sort of folk-artsy. If you want a realistic painting that really looks like you, please work with another artist that specializes in that sort of work. (There are tons!) If you want a caricature, you can go to almost any tourist location or street fair and find someone to do that for you for about $10-15. While I respect this special talent, this also is not my style.
For more info on the different styles, visit: caricature examples (what I DON"T do): http://www.sil.si.edu/exhibitions/Celeb/ folk art info (sort of what I do): http://www.folkartmuseum.org/ naive art info (also sort of what I do): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naïve_art

Here's what I will need from you:
Step 1:
Email me at bobojunket(at)comcast(dot)net to work out the WHEN. This
depends on when you want/need the painting to be completed by and when
I'm able to complete it. Please print out a copy of this page for
reference.
Step 2:
Please send me an email with the following information:
1. Your name, contact phone number, and your email address. Address of where the painting is to be shipped to and any shipping instructions (I will require a signature for delivery).
2. Names of the couple (first names only is OK). We live in a richly diverse culture and there are times when one encounters names that aren't clearly male or female. So please indicate if the couple in the painting are NOT a male-female couple. I'm happy to paint all couples, regardless of orientation. But for simplicity's sake, I will assume a male/female couple unless directed otherwise.
3. Please give me a description of what you want- who, what, where? The
more descriptive, the better. If you particularly like certain
paintings of mine please tell me which ones so I have an idea of the
direction I should take. I'm not opposed to taking inspiration from
other works of art (the work of all artists, like scientists, stands on
the shoulders of those who came before). Ofcourse, work will still be
within the range of styles I work in and I will not copy other artists'
work. Feel free to get creative- it's your painting! I can paint you in some other time period or as another famous couple or with some other sort of theme like a circus, jungle, beach etc. 4. Some elements I tend to incorporate in my artwork are: bits of paper
scraps from old books etc., bits of doilies, tissue paper (great
texture!), letter/number stencils, damask/toile/decorative stencils, little
bits of felt, and glitter glue. These elements have sort of become my signature, but I don't use all of them in all paintings. If you are strongly attracted to or
repelled by any of these elements it is essential that you tell me
before I begin. If you'd like me to incorporate torn pages of your
wedding invitations or engagement announcements into the background, I
can do that. Or a map of the location of the wedding or the town you
met...Or ticket stubs or any other paper memorabilia. Just send it to
me well before I begin (snail mail or as an email attachment jpeg). If you want to keep the originals, just send
me photocopies. Please don't send me anything precious or anything I
have to return.
5. Please email me pictures
(low-resolution pics please) or create a shutterfly album for me to reference. Also email pictures of the location and /or structure you want in the background. I tend not to get too detailed with backgrounds so please tell me which elements are most important to include. If it's somewhere famous, I can just look
it up. Even though I don't paint realistically, I'll include some physical characteristics that will allow you to
recognize yourselves and your location. Please describe distinctive
characteristics- for example if the groom is 6'5" and the bride 4'10"
please tell me that so I can incorporate their relative sizes. I tend
to paint people of average size. Please tell me if one or both should
be painted as plump or very skinny.
6 Hair/eye color? Hair style? Should I paint the hair as it appears in the photos or different in some way (darker, longer, etc)? Should skin color be a shade of beige/brown and if so,
light, tan or dark? I tend to like painting people in shades other than
beige (pink, yellow, light blue, light green, white, red...). Let me
know how you feel about that. How do you feel about unnatural hair colors?
7. Are there any letter and/or numbers that have significance for you that you'd like me to include if the painting wants it? Are these elements something you DEFINITELY want included or are they OPTIONAL for me to include? (Sometimes it's good to leave some things up to how the composition works out.) Examples are your initials or the day of the month you met or were/will be married...etc.
8. Are there any certain colors or overall color themes you'd
prefer? If the painting is to include a bouquet, what color should it
be? Feel free to direct me to pretty much anything for a color theme. I can use artwork, fabric, wrapping paper or even room decor for color direction.
9. Please describe the attire you'd like to be painted in and any jewelry that is important to include.
Step 3: Shortly before I begin your painting, I will email you a Paypal invoice for the non-refundable deposit of $100. I will need this in order to begin the painting. The deposit sort of solidifies our arrangement. I may have additional questions for you at this time.
Step 4:
Once the painting is complete, I will email you a picture of it. You
will (hopefully) be ecstatic and overjoyed. And I will email you an
invoice for the final payment of $595.00 plus S&H with insurance
(for US, approx.$35). Once received, I will ship the painting by
Priority Mail or Fed-Ex (3-day) and you should receive it in 2-3 days. You'll get to
enjoy your new artwork for a lifetime!
Important:
Please be sure to let me know of everything you want to include in the
painting at the time I begin work. If at completion, you feel the piece
is not quite perfect, I will ofcourse work with you to make it perfect
at no additional cost. However, additions or significant changes
requested once the piece is completed will incur a charge of $38 per
hour. For example, if you decide at completion that you'd like to be painted with a beehive hairstyle when you initially requested a ponytail is the sort of additional work that will incur an additional fee.
PLEASE NOTE: I retain all copyrights for all of my artwork, whether
or not it's a commission. So basically that means you own the original
only. Under copyright law, you may not make prints of the image or use
the image on anything commercially. This also means I retain the right
to use the image for prints or other items. This is in your interest,
as an artwork that attains a certain notoriety as a result of its production
on giclee prints or other items may become worth much more than what
you paid. So it's a good investment! If you want to purchase all
reproduction rights and you do not want me to reproduce the artwork to
sell as prints, let me know. I am willing to sell you
all copyrights for an additional $800.
